Uppity Brown Woman

You uppity women of colour! You’re just asking for too much.

I don’t moderate comments (meaning I don’t delete comments). I only have one rule about commenting.

Don’t be an offensive asshole.

That is all.

P.S. This is my sandbox, so I will determine what ‘offensive’ and ‘asshole’ means.

I just discovered your blog and I absolutely love it…you have no idea how good it feels to share the anger! I’ve also been looking through your links to other blogs, and most of them r great.

One thing that puzzled me was the link to the Shameless blog, especially since I just read this on there: http://www.shamelessmag.com/blog/2008/12/jamilti-and-other-stories/#more. How do you feel about the anti-palestinian and anti-muslim slant of this story? Granted, not every publication/site is perfect, but Shameless seems pretty shameless about who its calling terrorists.

Hope you keep posting and cant wait to read some more!

  3. Well, let me first state that I’m against what is called Israeli Apartheid for the most part, pro-Palestine, and against Islamophobia, but the situation between Palestine and Israel is not something I can honestly say that I am fully educated on. I couldn’t speak for the blogger, but I am assuming that she is calling the act of violence in the book ‘terrorism’ because that is the way it is framed in the book. Again, I haven’t read the story either, so I can’t comment on what happens in it.

Secondly, since Shameless has multiple bloggers, they can be hit or miss sometimes, just as with other larger feminist blogs (e.g. Feministing, Pandagon, Feministe). Some of the bloggers there have said some very problematic things through their privilege, but they are usually on the ball and open to critique. Apart from some good posts there, I keep Shameless on because one of my main goals is to keep up with the Canadian feminist blogosphere. A lot of the blogs out there are based in the US, or are based in Canada but ignore Canadian issues.

I hope to see you around, and I’m glad you are enjoying my blog!

I just commented for the first time and then saw the “On Commenting” link and thought, “crap.”

But this guideline is definitely simple enough to go without saying for reasonable people.
